DAGUPAN CITY - Mayor Belen T. Fernandez showcased the Dagupan bangus and other different Dagupan certified products during the opening of the International Food Exhibition (IFEX) at the Mall of Asia SMX Convention Center last May 21.
Among those who attended were dignitaries led by Senator Cynthia Villar and other national government officials.
For the very first time, Dagupan joined an international food exhibit to promote the world’s tastiest Dagupan bangus and other Dagupan certified products such as deboned and marinated bangus, smoked (tinapa) bangus, bangus in oil, alamang, monamon, suman and pinipig, peanut bites, banana chips, and dried fish.
These products were proudly made by rural women in the city who were trained on food processing under Project Belen (acronym for Better Education for Livelihood and Employment Needs).
Fernandez said the city joined the prestigious food exhibit as she wants the Dagupan bangus to penetrate the international market and to show that Dagupan bangus now carries a tag bearing the “Dagupan Certified” logo.
This very conspicuous logo can assure that consumers will no longer be deceived by bangus produced from other areas which are not as tasty as the Dagupan bangus.
“Gusto kong makilala ang Dagupan bangus sa global market and to let the world know that our very own Dagupan bangus now has the “Dagupan Certified” tag so consumers can now buy genuine Dagupan bangus.” Fernandez said.
IFEX is a special showcase of the 21 Asia Pacific Region Economic Cooperation economies featuring their country pavilions, top food brands and celebrated chefs.
Aside from APEC, United States and Canada also joined the showcase. (CIO photo by Leziel Aquino 5/22/2015)
