R1MC Boss hails hospital proposed by former mayor

Welcomes all ideas that could improve the delivery of health services

By MORTZ C. ORTIGOZA

DAGUPAN CITY – The chief of the Regional-1 Medical Center (R1MC) lauded the intention of the former Benjie Lim Administration to build a maternity lying-in clinic here to cater for free to poor residents.
MARKER. President Aquino and Dr. Roland Mejia lead the unveiling of the marker of
the new Emergency Room Complex at the Region I Medical Center (R1MC) in
Dagupan City.
Dr. Roland Mejia said it was a welcome moved to help decongest the influx of the patients to R1MC.
“Well, ang sabi ko nga the Region 1 Medical Center welcomes all ideas that could improve the delivery of health services,” as his answer to the soundness of Lim’s project.
Former Mayor Lim hospital project did not materialize after it was shelved by the administration of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez after she defeated the former in the 2013 election.
Mejia said that the birthing hospital of Lim was logical to give more elbow spaces for R1MC to cater to more complicated illness.
“ R1MC is the only tertiary hospital in Pangasinan,” Mejia explained in a press conference he called.
Because of its tertiary level, he said, R1MC should be catering to more complicated birth deliveries.
He cited as example a breach delivery where the buttock of the infant comes first from the organ of the mother.
“They have to refer it here!” He emphatically said.

Mejia cited that presently R1MC has tied up with the birthing stations in the island villages here.
But if the delivery is complicated, he instructed people on those stations to bring the patients at the regional hospital.

“This is to comply with the Philippines’ Millennium Development Goal on maternal mortality. Kung delikado ay iyan ay dinadala na dito sa hospital”
