DAGUPAN CITY – The city is now 90.32 percent drug free following the declaration of Barangays Pantal and Pogo Chico as another drug cleared barangay on January 12 at the city museum.
The declaration of the two barangays as drug cleared was signed by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez and Dagupan City Police Station Chief P/Superintendent Neil O. Miro.
Miro disclosed that Barangay 2&3, Calmay and Pugaro have yet to be cleared by the PNP where around 20 drug personalities have yet to be accounted for.
“I am happy that our city is now 90.32 percent drug free and for the rest of the barangays that have yet to be cleared I think mahihirapan pa ang ating PNP. I told our chief that I am not going to sign any declaration until I am sure na talagang wala nang operation ng droga sa kanilang mga barangay,” said Fernandez.
Punong Barangay Brian Kua of Pogo Chico was glad that his barangay is now declared drug free. He admitted that since the campaign against drug started his barangay is no longer a haven of ‘akyat bahay’ as in the past.
Around 20 drug personalities surrendered in Pogo Chico.
Punong Barangay Julie Ann Perez of Pantal is likewise glad that her barangay is now among the drug free barangays in the city.
“We owe this to our barangay-mates who willingly cooperated to us by giving us information about any drug transactions in their sitios. Right now we designated point persons in every sitios who constantly monitor their areas so we can be assured that there no longer be any transactions of this kind in the future,” said Perez.
Pantal has at least 95 drug surrenderers. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/Jan. 12, 2017)
