Dagupan holds dialogue with illegal settlers in Pugaro

DAGUPAN CITY – The city of Dagupan facilitated  another dialogue between some 500 illegal settlers in Barangay Pugaro  and  the family that owns the lot they are occupying in a bid to work for a peaceful transfer of ownership of  the area to them.

Randy Soriano, representative of the Soriano family that owns the lot, joined the dialogue along with representatives of the Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC).

SHFC is the lead government agency to undertake the financing of social housing programs that caters to the formal and informal sectors in the low-income bracket and takes charge of developing and administering social housing program schemes.

“The Soriano family has taken into consideration the welfare of the people and we do not want them to be displaced and so we decided on selling the land to them under the Social Housing program of the government,” said Soriano.

In helping the families achieve a win-win solution with the SHFC, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez promised to review the proceedings of acquiring the lot under the scheme along with the City Administrator, City Assessors Office and the city’s legal team and possibly secure a much lower interest rate from the SHFC office in Manila.

Another dialogue is scheduled next week among the parties.  (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
