OUR CHILDREN OUR PRIDE AIM FOR GOLD – MBTF

DAGUPAN CITY – Mayor Belen T. Fernandez encouraged the 417 athletes and delegates of the city seeing action in this year's Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet to aim for gold when she met with them on February 28 at the People’s Astrodome.

The meeting happened FEB 28 2017 before the Dagupan delegation will leave for Ilocos Sur on March 2. To date, all the athletes are undergoing rigorous preparation for the meet.

The R1AA Meet will formally start on March 3 and ends on March 8. The opening program will be on March 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the newly-renovated Quirino Stadium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

The city delegation will compete with the other 13 delegations in more than 20 different game categories which include billiards, goal ball, wushu and bocce, archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, chess, boxing, football, futsal, gymnastics, lawn tennis, sepak-takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, and wrestling.

For the five-day meet, the city athletes received from the city financial support amounting to P960.00, aside from their uniforms and gadgets.

In the last R1AA in San Carlos City, Dagupan City made history by finishing second over-all, improving from the 2012 BEST IN UNIFORM AND 2ND YEAR 7th place finish it garnered in the 2015 R1AA meet.

“Aim for gold. Aim for number 1,” said Fernandez as she assured the athletes that an incentive awaits those who will bring home gold medals.
