DAGUPAN CITY – The city is now studying the possibility of designating loading and unloading areas for passengers of public utility vehicles (PUVs) plying each routes in the city.
According to the new POSO chief, SPO4 Carlito Ocampo each PUV will be assigned a numbered area where they will have the exclusive right to load and unload their passengers to the exclusion of other PUVs not on the same route.
“This is bringing order in our traffic system. Hopefully this will work out with the cooperation of all transport jeepneys plying the city. This has been the dream of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez who never stops learning and finding ways on how to solve the city’s problem on traffic,” said Ocampo.
Ocampo also disclosed that with the merging of the POSO and the CAST offices under one command, the city’s traffic enforcers are now working on three shifts starting from 6 a.m. till 9 p.m. on weekdays.
“We have also designated traffic enforcers right in places where we experience heavy traffic in the city like the welcome rotunda in Perez, Lucao, traffic post number 1 in Arellano and the corner of Burgos and A.B. Fernandez West,” said Ocampo.
Big bus companies in the city were also discouraged to load passengers outside of their terminals or face apprehension and payment of corresponding penalties.
Buses and mini-buses which have been in the practice of making the top of the bridge at Perez Boulevard up to the foot of the bridge as their “paradahan” are now being apprehended for traffic obstruction.
“Soon our traffic enforcers will be deputized by the Land Transportation Office. When this happens, erring drivers will be made to pay a much stiffer penalty because we will be enforcing the provisions of the national law,” said Ocampo as he also issued a stern warning against traffic personnel not to engage in the practice of asking money from drivers.
“I will make the arrest myself if any of our traffic enforcers will be doing this,” warned Ocampo. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/Sept. 13, 2016)
