BINMALEY, Pangasinan – A senatorial candidate said the 6.6 per cent Gross Domestic Product (GDP)reaped under the Aquino Administration last year will not benefit overnight the poor, but would take six years of continuous 6.6 percent of GDP for them to feel it.
Former congresswoman Cynthia Villar said during the fiesta celebration in this town that the much ballyhooed GDP feats last year will not flow to the marginalized sectors in one year.
As a strategy to achieve the economic boom, Villar encouraged the government to give incentives to foreign direct investment (FDI) that gives employment to Filipinos. “Bigyan ng incentives iyong nakakapagbibigay ng trabaho. Iyong iba pang makapagbigay ay bigyan ng incentives.
Kailangan ng tao ng trabaho”. Villar pooh-poohed the millions of dollars infuse into the stock market by hedge fund raisers. “Kailangan natin direct long term foreign investment na magtatayo ng mga factory dito. At iyon ang magbibigay ng employment.
Hindi iyong stock market. Labas pasok lang iyan sa bansa.” The matriarch of Palmera Homes, Camella Homes, Adelfa Properties, to name a few, lauds the indispensable role of the OFWs who regularly send remittances to the country that eventually buoy the local economy. “Anlaki-laki ng naitutulong ng ating remittances. Without that medyo may problema ang Pilipinas”.
She said however that the country can not depend forever to the dollars sent by the contract workers abroad. She explained that the Philippines could offer more incentives to foreign businessmen to draw them in the country instead of investing their monies in other Asian countries that lure them too with their alluring perks.
