LINGAYEN – The mayor of this capital town said since he became mayor in 1994 he has sent 3,000 scholars who already graduated in college.
Mayor Ernesto “Jonas” Castaneda said most of them studied at the Pangasinan State University, while some he sent to schools in Dagupan City.
He said from 1994 to 2007 the funding of these scholars came from his personal account.
In 2007 to present the tuition fees of the other scholars come from the municipal fund.
He mentioned the scholarship program to dispel the criticism of a politician here who positioned himself for the mayoralty post in 2013 election.
“Ano ang nagawa niya? Saan siya noong tinutulungan ko ang mga scholars? (What was his contribution to the people here? Where was he when I sent to schools these scholars?)” he posed.
Castaneda is concluding his final term in 2013 but his wife Eday is rumored to succeed him in his present post.
Meanwhile, Castaneda said a call center with 20 call agents will open in this town soon. He said the business process outsourcing will be located near the 711 in the Poblacion area.
