URDANETA CITY – The two-storey
SM Mall being constructed at a five- hectare land in Barangay Nancayasan here
will be opened to the public next year, according to this City’s mayor.
“This is the one being built near the 7-11. The other one that people
are talking is located at Barangay Anonas,” Mayor Amadeo Gregorio E. Perez IV
said.
Aside from 7-11, the 32,882 square
meters SM retail store faces food chain Chowking and another huge retail store CB Mall that would make
the nearby national highway there prone to traffic congestion.
“Wala tayong magawa bumili sila ng lupa,” he quipped.
The mayor however said that measures are already in the pipeline to mitigate the traffic snarl
that will be created by these malls and commercial establishments in Nancayasan.
When SM Prime Holdings,
Inc. (SMPH) bought the
land, Perez cited he was already the mayor of this burgeoning city.
The two-storey SM Mall here is
part of the six malls of SMPH to be introduced this year and next year in the
Philippines. They have an aggregate
gross floor area (GFA) of 430,669 sqm.
The other retail stores
are located in San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan (114,186 sqm), Commonwealth in
Quezon City (104,218 sqm), Trece Martires City in Cavite (80,715 sqm),
Tuguegarao (50,181 sqm), and Puerto Princesa in Palawan (59,113 sqm).
The one being built at Barangay
Herrero in Dagupan City was not included at the website of the SMPI on the six
malls presented to the public.
SMPH bought a 10- hectare of land
at Barangay Anonas here to build supposedly a bigger and its second SM Mall in
Eastern Pangasinan but hit a legal snag with one of the sellers of the land
there.
The problem resulted for the building of
a mall at Barangay Nancayasan.
SMPH built its first mall and
grocery at Barangay Carmen in Rosales, Pangasinan in November 28, 2008.
