CITY, DEPED TO CONDUCT 3-DAY WORKSHOP ON PANGASINAN FOLK DANCES



DAGUPAN CITY – A three-day training workshop on Pangasinan folk dances will be conducted by the Dagupan Historical, Culture and Arts Office and the Department of Education at Caranglaan Elementary School on October 9-11.

Anchored on the theme “Optimizing Pangasinan Culture and Traditions through Pangasinan Folk Dances”, the workshop aims to preserve, revive and promote traditional Pangasinan folk dances among younger generations, to appreciate the culture and serve as role model and become good citizens.

The participants will come from the different public schools where each school will send two pairs selected from among Grade 5-9 students and pupils and one school dance trainor.

The training will be spearheaded by Music, Arts, Physical, Education and Health (MAPEH) teachers who also underwent dance training during the 29th Annual National Dance Educators Convention-Workshop on April 25-29 last year at the People’s Astrodome.

“This is a continuing program of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez in promoting arts and culture in our city especially to our young generation,” said City Culture and Arts head Zenaida L. Sinlao.

The guest lecturer/trainer will be Dr. Prescilla L. Miñas, vice-president of the Dance Education Association of the Philippines (DEAP).

During the three-day training workshop, the participants will undergo nine dance lessons where they will learn basic position of hand and feet and fundamental dance steps, basic choreography and dance interpretation.


Some of the best Pangasinan dances will also be taught to them. These include "Konan", "Pandanggo Na Tapis", "Balangbang", "Oasioas", "Maliket a Polka", "Habanera De Soltera", "Jota Pangasinana", "Mazurka Val” and "Ontan-Ay".
The trainors are Araceli R. Nimer, Tiffany Khristine B. Fermill, Jun U. Ferreol, Marietta E. Fabia, Mary Jane T. Calimlim, Roan Jett M. Fernandez, Arnel D. Cendaña and Frederick Narvas.

The executive chairmen of the program are lawyer Gonzalo T. Duque of the Dagupan Historical, Culture and Arts Office and City Schools Division Superintendent Froserfina J. Bravo. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/Oct. 7, 2015)
