Dagupan launches Blood Mo, Type Ko



DAGUPAN CITY – Mayor Belen T. Fernandez led the successful launching of the city’s blood typing project and mobile blood donation activities dubbed as “Blood Mo, Type Ko, Free ‘To” on September 22 at Dr. Salvador T. Duque Field House, Lyceum Northwestern University here.
Along with Fernandez during the launching program were lawyer Gonzalo T. Duque,LNU chancellor; Dr. Vivien Villaflor and Florame Magalong, Philippine Red Cross, chapter administrator; Department of Interior and Local Government City Director Rhoderick Dawis; the Punong Barangays headed by Councilor Marcelino Fernandez; and the officers and members of the Dagupan City Blood Council with  Rhyza Ventinilla as focal person.
The blood typing project and mobile blood donation activity is in accordance with Republic Act 7719 otherwise known as AN ACT PROMOTING VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION, PROVIDING FOR AN ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF SAFE BLOOD, REGULATING BLOOD BANKS, AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEREOF.
More than 120 students underwent blood typing and eventually became blood donors with majority of them registered as having a type O plus blood type.
Fernandez conveyed her gratitude to those who supported the launching program especially those who pledged their unwavering support to the cause of saving lives.
“Spending our time wisely is important and spending it wisely to save lives is even better. Our “Blood Mo, Type Ko, Free ‘To” program is a lifesaving social responsibility program that everyone should be part of because this is a donation more powerful than money and because saving life is something that you cannot put a price on,” said Fernandez.
She added that through this blood identification and date base building program, “we can show to the whole world that what really binds us is not just one drop of blood, but a sense of family where everyone looks out for everybody, we care for each other, and we shall offer our life to extend or save the life of another person”.
Each participant who underwent blood typing were given color coding cards like white for blood type O, blue for blood type A, red for blood type AB and yellow for blood type B.
Together with the Punong Barangays in all the 31 barangays, the council will soon visit the barangays for more mobile blood typing and donation activities.. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
