DAGUPAN CITY – The city’s Blood Coordinating Council will launch its “Blood Mo, Type Ko”, a simultaneous mobile blood typing and blood donation activity, at the Lyceum Northwestern University Gym on September 9.
Mayor Belen T. Fernandez organized the Blood Coordinating Council with Rhyza Ventenilla as focal person to ensure that the city has enough blood reserve to be used in case of emergency.
“It is our objective to provide blood for free to those in need regardless of socio-economic standing and who are residents of Dagupan,” said Fernandez.
After the launching, each of the 31 barangays here shall conduct a minimum of twice a year Mobile Blood Donation activity and encourage every physically fit resident to donate blood to ensure sustainability of supply.
“The more donors to participate will mean greater reservoir or deposit of blood units,” said Ventenilla, saying that the blood donated will be under the care of Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC).
The other members of the council include the hospitals in the city along with R1MC, the Philippine National Police, the Department of the Interior and Local Government of Dagupan City, the Philippine Red Cross, the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkasters sa Pilipinas and the non-government agencies.
“The only incentive for the blood donors is the joy of having helped someone saved from possible loss of life,” said Ventenilla. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/Aug. 27, 2015)
