3 robbers apprehended
Charged within 24 hours
Cooperation among the people and their authorities is one, if not the biggest, factor in solving social problems, even crimes like stealing.
This indeed has been proven true once again here when, after only 24 hours, barangay folks of Lucap and the local tourist police solved a robbery incident which transpired on January 22 involving Korean nationals who came to the city to tour the magnificent Hundred Islands.
Koreans Bae Gyeong Geun, 24, Jung Sang-ik, 26, and San-Min Lee, were appreciative of the prompt action of the police and the people that led to the arrest of the burglars and the recovery of their personal belongings composed of two (2) cameras, one cellphone, one Ipod and one mp3 player.
The burglars who were formally charged of robbery were identified by Supt. Rolie Saltat, chief of police, as Jolly Baniqued, 20; Omar R. Aquino, 19; and Elmer Baniqued, 17, all males from barangay Lucap. Being a minor, Elmer was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Saltat said it was Mrs. Emma Panican, the hotel caretaker of the S and R Transient Hotel, who informed the barangay folk and the police after allegedly witnessing the suspects entering the rooms of the victims by force.
The victims were having a drink outside the hotel when the alleged thieves entered their room and carted away their personal belongings, according to the police.
Meanwhile Mayor Hernani Braganza hailed the barangay folk especially Barangay Captain Raul Bacay , who was the first to respond, and the local police for the immediate resolution of the incident which according to the authorities “is just an isolated case.”
“As a major tourist destination, we cannot afford this kind of incident to happen in our city because it directly affects our tourism industry. That is why I would like to congratulate the barangay officials, the hotel caretaker, and the police for their cooperation,” Braganza said.
Through the partnership of the local police, POSO and the constituents, all forms of illegal activities like drug pushing, illegal gambling like jueteng, illegal fishing, and petty crimes have either stopped or substantially decreased in Alaminos.
Alaminos City was also declared as Drug Free and Jueteng Free by many people’s organizations as well as former Archbishop Oscar Cruz.
