Dagupan turns over musical stuffs to elem, secondary schools

DAGUPAN CITY – This city  recently turned over P2.2-M worth of  music instruments to various public elementary and secondary schools here.

Students from Bolosan Elementary School, West Central Elementary School 1, Salisay, Bacayao Sur, North Central Elementary School, East Central Elementary School, Malued Elementary School, Lucao Elementary School, Judge Jose De Venecia Sr. Memorial National High School and Dagupan City National High School rushed to greet Mayor Belen Fernandez to express their gratitude for the new musical instruments.

Other schools were given organ pianos, drum sets, guitars, ukuleles, electric guitars, rondallas and drum and lyre instruments and many more to enable students to discover and enhance their musical talents.The city government is giving its full support in developing the talents and skills of Dagupeño youth in different fields. Organ pianos, drum sets, guitars, ukuleles, electric guitars, rondallas and drum and lyre instruments and many more were given to these schools so that students will have a chance to discover and enhance their musical talents.

Mayor Fernandez expressed the city government’s full support in developing the talents and skills of Dagupeño youth in different fields.

“Aside from our continuous support in sports and journalism, we are also putting importance to the children’s talents in both music and arts. We are supporting all children in whichever passion they want to pursue because this will develop them to be well-rounded leaders in the future,”  added Fernandez.

Earlier this year, the city also turned over another P2M-worth of musical instruments to the city-funded Special Program for the Arts (SPA) at DCNHS. Serving as training ground for students gifted in the arts, the building will be equipped with facilities designed for different art forms such as music, dance, writing and media arts.

Fernandez also disclosed that the city government is working with the Department of Education (DepEd) Dagupan for the holding next year of Children’s Summit focusing on music and arts.

The Children’s Summit is a major program of the city government in collaboration with DepEd and the private sector which aims to develop the skills and talents of the youth. It is being attended yearly by more or less 20,000 students from public and private schools in the city.

The themes so-far tackled during the past three Children’s Summit included health, music and journalism. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
