DAGUPAN CITY – Balon Dagupan continues to make history by reaping another award, this time for excellently managing the bangus processing facility in the city.
This, after the city was adjudged by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Regional Office I as having the Best Performing Shared Service Facilities (SSF) project in Pangasinan and in the entire Ilocos Region.
Receiving the provincial and regional awards for LGU Dagupan under Mayor Belen T. Fernandez was City Agriculturist Emma Molina during the SSF Awarding and Recognition Ceremony at Hotel Ariana in Bauang, La Union on December 7.
The award was signed by DTI Regional Director Florante O. Leal.
The SSF Awards seek to recognize the efforts of SSF project partners for managing their projects by utilizing their manpower and resources as well as empowering the people in their communities.
The recognition came after the city government under the leadership of Mayor Fernandez allowed the expansion and development of the bangus industry through the bangus processing facility, which processed and put added value to milkfish products being sold locally and abroad.
This in turn not only increased sales but also generated more jobs for Dagupeños and provided assistance to small business owners and entrepreneurs.
This is in line with the SSF Project’s thrust to improve the competitiveness of MSMEs by providing them with machinery, equipment, tools, systems, skills and knowledge, under a shared system.
Since the implementation of the SSF program in the city, DTI provided the city’s processing facility with equipment and machinery that helped increase the standards and production of bangus. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
