NEW MACARTHUR PARK TO RISE IN BONUAN

BECAUSE MACARTHUR LANDED FIRST IN DAGUPAN, NOT LINGAYEN

DAGUPAN CITY – A new  MacArthur Park will soon rise in Bonuan Tondaligan to constantly remind the present and new generations   of  the landing of the Allied liberation  forces in the beaches of the Lingayen Gulf  on that fateful day of  January 9, 1945 to finally begin the liberation of Luzon from the occupation forces.
BONUAN LANDING.World War II veteran Alejandro Balolong,, 91, saw MacArthur and soldiers passed by with their
vehicles at the Bonuan Catacdang Road after he and party disembarked from their ships at the Bonuan Tondaligan
Beach on January 9, 1945. The personal account of Balolong and other surviving residents of the village have
been used by the City of Dagupan to reclaim the historical glory as the venue, not Lingayen town, where the illustrious
and liberator Army five stars' general landed. INTERNET PHOTO GRAB

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez disclosed that the construction of the park, which features a replica of the landing of MacArthuir in the shores of Bonuan  along with his staff officers  will start on the second quarter of the year.
She made the announcement  when she conducted an ocular inspection of the site where the park will be built in Tondaligan on February 2.
The park will be constructed on the site where the old water reservoir of the Dagupan City Water District is positioned.
Meanwhile, Councilor Jeslito C. Seen, chairperson, Committee on Arts, Culture and Heritage of the Sanguuniang Panlungsod said he is seeking professional help from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP)  for  a list of officially and unofficially declared pieces of historical legacies, structures, relics and artifacts h are associated in the history of Dagupan to be  ultimately declared as significant in the city’s history.
NHCP  Executive Director Ludovico D. Badoy wrote

Seen on November 17, 2017 that  the  only historical structure and site listed in the book "Historical Markers" were the old Church of Dagupan and the Luzon Landing in Bonuan Blue Beach.
There are other structures identified as historically significant but were  not yet installed with historical markers. These  are the Dagupan City Light Station, Paaralang Elementarya ng West Central 1 and the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital.
There is at present a marker of the Luzon Landing with a monument of Gen. MacArthur in Bonuan Gueset but the lot which it stands is  private owned..
The transfer of the marker and the monument to Tondaligan would therefore give the youth a better access to the park, said Seen.
The city, at present, is undertaking a citywide cultural mapping.
According to Seen there are at least 500 items/sites of historical significance in the city which will soon be submitted to the commission for approval.
Once approved these items/sites of historical significance will complete the production of the city’s official coffee book next year said Seen. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/Feb. 2, 2018)

City Councilor Jigs Seen I started my research regarding Mac Arthur landing in Luzon way back in 2014 when I was the chairman of the fiesta. Phil Veterans Bank posted this picture in their exhibit in the city museum shots taken by Life photographer Carl Mydans in January 9,1945. If you observed, the shortline is short that resembled the Bonuan Blue Beach in Dagupan.

Mark C. Machiavelli Let Dagupan City's reclaim the Glory of the MacArthur Landing's real venue, Mayor.
Silvestre A Rayos Jr. Gen. Douglas McArthur landed in multiple sites along Lingayen Gulf, whether sa Lingayen or Dagupan ang nauna, remains a murky issue

Silvestre A Rayos Jr. The ships used the Capitol as a landmark, according to Gov Conrado Estrella, he asked the general where he first landed first in Pangasinan, the clear answer was in at the back of the Capitol, from his own mouth

Mar C. Ortigoza So it is between the word of Veteran Balolong who is still alive and the secondary statement of Gov Estrella from MacArthur and that missive on the lower part of the picture given to Mayor Verzosa?

Silvestre A Rayos Jr. A foot note sa Lingayen Gulf War Museum states that McArthur first landed in Lingayen Beach, maraming remnants ng mattings after the war due to soft sand on the beach where heavy trucks ang armored vehicles passed.

Mar C. Ortigoza This is a contentious issue because Balolong and those living eye witnesses singled out the day, month, and Year January 9, 1945. The day MacArthur first landed in Pangasinan

Silvestre A Rayos Jr. The marker itself on West Central School says he landed in Lingayen Beach, kasama ba ang Bonuan beach sa Lingayen Beach. The best way to find out is through the official war transcript of of McArthur Landing in Lingayen Gulf from US Navy Archives

Silvestre A Rayos Jr. Ano bang sinasabi ng Philippine war archives sa liberation of Luzon. meron ba o wala

Silvestre A Rayos Jr. The brouhaha started when Mayor Manaois whispered to FL and Minister of Human Settlement Imelda Marcos about McArthur landing in Bonuan beach and he wants to build a park. Possibly through Executive Secretary Jacobo Clave, a presidential decree was iss...See More

Jigs Seen Based on the Philippine Veterans exhibits last 2014, Gen Mac Arthur landed in the Bonuan Blue Beach but upon being informed that the bridge in Bonuan Catacdang leading West Central School is impassable, he went back to his ship and decided to land in Lingayen Beach that leads him and arrived at his destination by land at West Central Gabaldon Building.

Mark C. Machiavelli Please send me the photos of that Exhibits Councilor, they are good documents to collaborate eyewitnesses accounts that Dagupan was the first landing site of General Dug-Out Dough MacArthur.

Silvestre A Rayos Jr. May marker din kasi sa Lingayen Beach, nasa gilid ng Capitolyo noon, ngaun malinaw na sakin ang lahat

  2. Asst. Prosecutor Ferdinand Parayno If Gen Mac Arthur first landed in Lingayen as claimed by residents of that capital town, then why did he choose to use a building inside the West Central School in Dagupan as his official residence/office during his stay? I don't think that would be a sound tactical decision on his part. . And then there are pictures of the General personally inspecting downtown Dagupan. Why would he do that if he first landed in Lingayen town? I think our history books should be re-written and Dagupan should be given the distinction that has wrongly been given to another municipality, for being the City where Mac Arthur had landed.

Political Kibitzer Silvestre A Rayos Jr., U.S.A: He landed in both places supported by pictures and eyewitness accounts, most people don’t know that, based on kuno and cuanda, mag aaway nga mga taga Lingayen at Dagupan , hehehe both will claim da distinction, pati nga sa San Fabian at Binmaley may nag claim na naglanding din doon c Mac Arthur
Angel Ceralde Gumarang General Douglas McArthur and his forces landed along the Lingayen gulf. The gulf stretch from San Fabian to Dagupan and to Lingayen.

  3. Angel Ceralde Gumarang My Sister does not want the marker inside her private property anymore for security reason. It should be relocated to a place where people can view it and be inform. Our family supports Mayor Belen Fernandez initiative to transfer the landmark to Tondaligan Park. The 72 hectare park is just a stone's throw away from the house of my sister. It would also serve as another special and nostalgic feature of the very famous Tondaligan Park.
