DPWH improves road access to tourism sites in Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY – Travelling to tourism sites in the western part of Pangasinan is now easy as access roads leading to must-see attractions in the area were given a face lift,  thanks to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Tourists visiting the Tondol beach in Anda town will be surprised not only with the fine and long stretch of wide white sand beach but also with the paved roadway leading to this tourism destination.

District Engineer Smile Fermin of DPWH-Pangasinan 1st District Engineering Office reported the completion of the P43 million concrete paving of Poblacion-San Jose-Namagbagan-Imbo-Tondol road leading to Tondol beach located at the northern tip of Anda.

In a statement, DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said that the road project funded by the Department of Tourism under a convergence program will make travel to Tondol beach convenient.

“The place is a perfect summer escapade for people from Luzon who need not go far nor spend much to experience white sandy beach,” Singson said.

The pure white sand, crystal water that reflect the skies, calm waves and sand bars of Tondol beach, often called by the locals as the “Boracay of North,” is an enjoyable place for families to build white sand castle of dreams ala Boracay.

According to Engr. June Miguel Ramolete Sr., planning section head of DPWH-Pangasinan 1st District Engineering Office, the improvement of the concrete access road involves replacement works for the deteriorated existing concrete pavement and construction of stone masonry slope protection structure along the roadside.

Meanwhile, to further increase the tourism potential of Agno town, the DPWH is also undertaking the construction of access road leading to the Umbrella Rocks and Abagatanen beach.

The white sand Abagatanen beach and colossal boulders known as “Umbrella Rocks” as well as the clear Sabangan beach are gems of Agno.

The initial improvement of the Poblacion-Sabangan road was already completed by the DPWH-Pangasinan 1st District Engineering Office in the amount of P46.6 million.

Last year, the DPWH in the Ilocos has also completed various tourism road projects in Pangasinan namely: improvement of Bobonot-Tambobong road leading to Tambobong Beach in Dasol costing P150 million; Peralta Road to Mabini San Andres Barangay Road Leading to Mt. Balungao Hot and Cold Springs and Balungao Hilltop Adventure in Balungao costing P75 million; construction of Bocboc Bridge to Junction Pangasinan-Tarlac Road in Aguilar costing P37 million; construction and improvement of Barangays Pandan-Telbang Road leading to Bolo Beach, Alaminos City costing P53 million; improvement of Poblacion-Patar Road leading to Patar Beach and Bolinao Lighthouse in Bolinao costing 86 million; and the construction and improvement of Barangay Road of San Angel Road leading to San Angel Dam Ecotourism Site in the town of Rosales in the amount of P75 million.
