The block
voting religious sect Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) endorsed last Wednesday
Pangasinan gubernatorial aspirant Mark O. Cojuangco and re-electionist vice
gubernatorial bet Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr. for the May 9 election,
according to a source in the INC.
SOLIDIFICATION: Mark Cojuangco (2nd from Right) with mayors of Pangasinan when they meet at the party's headquarters in Manila to buttress their alliance. |
She said that
endorsement of candidates from the posts of congressmen to the members of the
town councils happened at 7 o’clock in the evening Wednesday at the different
churches of the INC.
“The members will be given a sample
ballot of the candidates the church supports tonight during the worship service,” she said.
The INC has
63 thousand voters in the 1,705,260 voters rich Pangasinan.
Cojuangco is
pitted with the son and namesake of last term Pangasinan governor Amado T.
Espino, Jr. while Calimlim slugged it out with Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy
Macanlalay for the vice governorship.
Cojuangco
and Macanlalay run under the Nationalist People’s Coalition founded by the
former’s father business tycoon Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco, while Espino III
and Calimlim contest the two top post of Pangasinan’s local government unit
under the Aksyon Demokratiko - a local party.
The source cited Calasiao mayoralty aspirant Roy Macanlalay and five of his candidates for
the town council were supported by the INC while vice mayoralty bet Ferdinand
Galang, who runs under the party of mayoralty bet Joseph Arman Bauzon, was
endorsed by the block voting sect.
Macanlalay
and Galang run under the NPC and Liberal Party, respectively.
Sta. Barbara
re-electionist mayor Lito Zaplan and four of his bets for the council were
listed by the INC as their candidate in that town.
Zaplan runs
under LP while his opponent Vice Mayor Emmanuel Cabangon carries the NPC
banner.
The source
said re-electionist 3rd District Congresswoman Rosemarie “Baby”
Arenas clinched the Manalo’s run 1.7 million voters strong sect’s endorsement.
Arenas, a
card carrying LP, is pitted with former congressmen Gener Tulagan and Eric
Acuna in the five towns Central
Pangasinan’s District.
