LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - Her unwavering support to the marginalized by giving them livelihood has been cited by senatorial bet Cynthia Villar as the reason that probably landed her at the No.4 slot of the latest national survey.
In the latest poll by Pulse Asia published in December last year, Villar said her stocks shoot-up from No. 9 to No. 4. “ Lumabas na iyong No.4 noong December. Actually July (2012) I was at No. 13, September (2012) I was at No. 9 then (becoming) No. 4 na,” the wife of outgoing Senator Manny Villar, explained to this paper.

Villar, a former three-term congresswoman, said that people all over the country lauded what she has done in the provinces of Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental. Another project she prepares to bankroll there is the P80 thousand house for a family who became homeless because of the onslaught of cascading flood brought by Typhoon Pablo. “Unang-una humingi sa amin ng pagka-in tapos tubig, tapos nag-padala kami ng blanket kasi may livelihood kami na blanket lahat ng aming natapos pinadala naming doon. Humingi pa sila ng timba and sumonod pugon at talapal. Ngayon bahay ang hinihingi nila na eighty thousand pesos worth daw bawat bahay. We will give the houses”. She said she will be giving them livelihood there because their source of income like banana plants and coconut trees were all wiped out by the typhoon and the flood. She said that incase she wins the electoral derby she has countless of pending projects in the pipeline.
Villar stressed that those projects she gives, through the Villar Foundation, to the people are not for one person but for the whole community like town. “Namimigay kami ng organic fertilizer sa mga farmers. Sa Las Pinas (City) marami kaming production ng organic fertilizer out- of- kitchen-- iyong garden waste. Hindi naman namin kayang ubosin. 30 thousand kilos naman binigay namin sa Pangasinan. Gustong gusto nila iyon”.
She was here recently after Mayor Ernesto Castaneda and vice mayoralty candidate Ford Flores, a family friend, invited her to grace the coronation of Miss Lingayen 2013 held at the town plaza here. Villar has been tirelessly barnstorming the humongous province of Pangasinan for the past months. She was seen helicopter-hopping at the towns of Mangaldan, Malasiqui, and Manaoag with provincial political bigwigs like Rosendo So ,the powerful chairman of Abono Party-list, and the party’s first congressional nominee Conrad Estrella leading her. A political spectator who asked anonymity was impressed about Villar tireless hustings by dropping for example in a town in Mindanao then departing through a jet in Visayas and Luzon in for the same day with a weekly regularity.
“The support she gives to the people in Mindanao who were damaged by Typhoon Pablo by providing them livelihood and houses could etched in the memory of the Filipinos and would surely land her in becoming No. 1 at the future surveys of Pulse Asia or Social Weather Station”.
