Lingayen, Pangasinan — Soon the dream of Pangasinenses of having a commercial airport in Pangasinan as linchpin for employment, tourism, and investment will be realized.
This after Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade — during the launching of a DOTr - TESDA joint project was held on April 3 at the Sison Auditorium — disclosed that the Lingayen Airport, here, will be upgraded for commercial operations.

The transportation department through the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines has already allocated an initial budget intended for the expansion of the said airport, where a flying school has since operational.
“We will push to do that (referring to the development of a commercial airport) because we know that you need it,” Tugade said.
The development of the Lingayen Airport for commercial operations is a “gift” from President Rodrigo Duterte to boost further the socio-economic growth and development of Pangasinan, Tugade said.
Part of the upgrading of the Lingayen Airport is the expansion of its runway. From the existing 1,178.79 meters (1.17 kilometer) runway, it will be expanded to around 1,634.02 meters (1.63 kilometer) to accommodate commercial flights.
Elated over another blessing given by the national government to Pangasinan, Governor Espino said that once completed, the Lingayen Airport will be a medium to spur further the employment, tourism, and investments in the province.
“A commercial airport operating in Pangasinan is a big help to Pangasinenses. With this, tourists and visitors will travel directly here from their respective places,” Governor Espino said.
The provincial chief executive said that with a commercial airport in place in Pangasinan, the mobility of international and local tourists to and fro Pangasinan will become easier, faster, and more comfortable. /Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca
