URDANETA CITY – The new chief of the Revenue District 6 lauded the cooperation of barangay officials and tax payers as they were the linchpin why the office surpassed by 28.46% her January collection compared to the same month last year.
Based on the record provided by the office of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Calasiao, RD-6 collected P77, 026,212.88 from January 1 to 31 in 2011 while it got only 59,948,692.16 in January 1 to 31 in 2010.
Atty. Beverly Milo hailed the “Lakbay Aral sa Barangay (Journey to the Villages) she initiated as it made officials in the village comply diligently by withholding 12% Value Added Tax of the cost of the project undertaken by government officials and contractors who build government projects in their areas.
“So we reach for the barangays of the municipalities. We have a lot of activities since January. Kahit maliit ang mga barangays pag na-ipon malaki rin (the collection),” she stressed...
She also hailed the signing into law last December by Governor Amado T. Espino on the increase of the valuation of Real Property Tax (RPT) all over Pangasinan.
Milo explained that with the hikes in the valuation of lands, the BIR can use it as a basis on “whichever is higher” the national tax code provide as basis every time it levies tax on donation, estate, and sale.
The new valuation passed by the Sanggunian Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) saw RPTs in many towns soared by 300%.
Milo distinguishes the tax imposed by the BIR and the RPT implemented by a municipality or a province. She said that every time the latter increases the valuation everybody is affected.
“At the local level, the increase is collected outright Everybody has to pay pag nag-increase.. Talagang apektado lahat. Annual basis kasi tayo nagbabayad ng amilyar (real estate tax),” she said.
She explained that the BIR can only collect what is due every time he has a business that requires a transaction with the BIR.
