DAGUPAN CITY – At least 160 Dagupenos will soon start work in theirrespective barangays under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The emergency employment assistance is a form of intervention provided by DOLE for Dagupenos particularly effected during the extreme flooding in the city last July.
Under TUPAD, the beneficiaries will now be working closely with their barangays to perform tasks needed in their areas such as repairing, cleaning and declogging of canals, esteros and drainages, among others.
At P280 wage per day, the beneficiaries will receive P5,600 from DOLE at the end of their 20-day work.
Cleaning materials necessary for their employment such as rakes, shovels, brooms and waste baskets were turned over to the beneficiaries by the city government as its counterpart for the program during the orientation of the workers on September 27 at CSI Stadia in Lucao.
Shirts and strawhats were also provided by DOLE during the event.
In that occasion, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez said the partnership of the city government and DOLE is timely because most esteros and drainages in the city need declogging after being silted during the series of calamities that hit the city.
“While the DPWH is providing us assistance in declogging our drainages in our main roads and highways, we must do our part in cleaning our barangays. The city government and DOLE tied up for this endeavor because we need assistance and support in cleaning all areas affected by the recent typhoons,”said Fernandez.
Meanwhile, Field Office Head Engracio Bailon of DOLE Central Pangasinan disclosed that a second batch comprising of 100 beneficiaries will soon be working under the program.
“We will have the next batch of 100 beneficiaries for those affected during Typhoon ‘Ompong’. PESO (Dagupan) is now working to determine who will be the next beneficiaries of our program,” added Bailon. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
