SUAL, Pangasinan – Mayor Roberto Ll.
Arcinue is in the thick of negotiations with foreign and domestic investors for
the implementation of mega projects that tremendously impact on the Pangasinan
economy.
He recently told local newsmen that he has
been holding discussions with executives of multi-national companies who are
eyeing this first class coastal town as investment destination because its
strategic location and its deep and wide harbour similar to Subic in Olongapo
City, Zambales.
Sual, Pangasinan is being harnessed by the town mayor Roberto Arcinue as the next Subic Bay Free Port (as shown in the photo) to host those power plant, sea port, ship building, oil depot just like those in Batangas Province, and as a tourism hub. |
The mega projects proposed for immediate
implementation include another coal-fired power plant, international seaport,
an oil depot, ship building facility, and food processing and storage
facilities.
Arcinue showed reporters the blueprint of
such projects prepared by foreign multi-national firms, notably those from
South Korea which is keen on putting up a state-of-the-art coal-fired power
plant, a Mid-East conglomerate that is eyeing the construction of an oil depot,
and a giant industrial complex based in Eastern Europe that proposed the
construction of a ship-building facility.
“It is ironic that while industrial giants
want to bring to this town’s mega projects worth billions of US dollars that
would generate thousands of jobs for our people, a few individuals want these
projects stopped to serve their selfish interests,” Arcinue said. (RC)
