Celeste rules as prov'l ABC head

It took four votes to catapult Alaminos City Punong Barangay Art Bryan Celeste in his last Monday's bid as the top representative of the League of Barangays of the province of Pangasinan at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (legislative chamber) in the poll held at Dagupan City.
The League is the successor of the Association of Barangay Council famously known as ABC.
Garnering 25 votes from the 47 members' provincial league, Celeste won the race against incumbent Liga President Jinky Zaplan.

Alaminos City Mayor Arthur F. Celeste swears in the City Federation Liga ng Barangay officials led by his son, Arth Bryan (second from right).
The new set of officers of the Federation ng  Liga ng Barangay in Pangasinan are the following: Art Brian Celeste; President; Jose Peralta,Vice President, Florence Tiu, Auditor ; Board of Directors: Hercules Magliba, Michael Brian Perez, Edgardo Fontelera, Edgrado Terrado, Lester Bermudez, Crisanto Coloma, Fernando Cruz, and Maria Doriza
Cruz.

Meanwhile, the result of the Liga election before noon of July 30 showed that Celeste won versus Zaplan by four points lead in a 25 – 21 scores.
“The ABC president of San Carlos City did not appear that was why out of the 47 voters 46 only voted. San Fabian Mayor Danny Agbayani was smarting because he thought ABC President Herucles Magliba there would vote for Zaplan since the mayor interceded that nobody’s challenged him when he ran for the presidency of the Municipal Liga,” Mayor Zaplan’s friend Renato Remogat told this paper.
The answer for the switching of loyalty in this poll was explained by a mayor who asked for anonymity.
"The relationship of Magliba’s father Apo Rufing Magliba with Congressman Estrella’s grandfather Condring who was the former Department of Agrarian Reform Minister of then President Ferdinand Marcos was thicker than with the moral suasion of Mayor Agbayani. The Maglibas were known as Marcos' loyalists".
Moreover, political kibitzers are wondering why the son of Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo Gregorio "Bobom" Perez IV, who is the City Liga President, went to support Zaplan instead of Celeste.
"The Perezes are identified as supporters of former congressman Mark Cojuangco who according to Abono Partly-List Chairman Rosendo So will be running for the next year's gubernatorial race challenging incumbent Pangasinan governor Amado Espino III.
So is Cojuangco's number one political adviser.
"The Zaplans are known as a dyed- in- the- wool allies of the Espinos," the mayor cited.
