DAGUPAN CITY – At least 70% of flood-affected Dagupenos have now received relief assistance, according to Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, who is expediting the relief operations in many of the flood and mud afflicted villages here.
As of July 27, relief operations have already been conducted in 21 barangays like Malued, Bacayao Sur, Pantal, Salisay, Bonuan Gueset, Lasip Grande, Pogo Grande, Barangay I, Barangay IV, Herrero-Perez, Mayombo, Poblacion Oeste, Pogo Chico, Tapuac, Lasip Chico, Caranglaan, Bacayao Norte, Calmay, Carael, Mangin and Mamalingling.
Relief operations are being done in batches for those villages greatly affected by the flood, from five to six barangays per day.
Likewise, relief goods are also being distributed to families situated in the different evacuation centers such as those currently at the People’s Astrodome, Pangasinan Medical Society Center, West Central Elementary School 1 and East Central Integrated School.
The relief operations were made possible through this city’s calamity fund under the City Disaster Risk Reducation and Management Office (CDRRMO) after it was placed under the state of calamity last July 21.
National and provincial agencies as well as private and non-government organizations have also given their assistance, contributing greatly to the relief operations being undertaken by the city government.
These include the Police Regional Office 1, PNP Dagupan, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the provincial and regional offices of the Department of Health (DOH), the Filipino-Chinese Community, the Catholic Church Community, the Adventist Church Community, Unilever Philippines, SM Dagupan, SM City Rosales and ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya among others.
Pangasinan Governor Amado I. Espino III and 4th District Representative Christopher De Venecia also extended their assistance to flood victims here.
“I’m very thankful to the agencies and organizations, as well as the private sector, for helping us during this time of need. With their help, we are now 70% complete in our relief operations, ” said Mayor Fernandez.
Fernandez and her disaster response team are currently working to ensure that relief assistance will be extended in all 31 barangays, with an estimated 44,138 famlies affected by the extreme flooding in the city.
“We cannot be in all places at one time. Magtitiyaga po muna ang ating mga mamamayan. But we are working to distribute the supplies as fast as we can, that is why we are working even on Saturdays and Sundays,” added Fernandez. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
