New Liga Prexy hails De Venecia, Mangaldan Mayor

They would not allow me to lose the poll

By Mortz C. Ortigoza

MANGALDAN- The illustrious De Venecia family and the mayor here have been the recipients of the gratitude by the new member of the Sangguniang Bayan (Legislative Council) in this first class town.

During his inaugural speech at the Council, the new Liga ng Barangay (LnB) President Rolly Gubatan Abalos cited  the pledge of the De Venecias that they would not allow him to be defeated by a rival at the LnB’s election top post held last July 16.
He lost the LnB’s top post three years ago to former LnB President Juvy Frialde .
ALLIES - Mangaldan new Councilor Rolly G. Abalos (extreme left) poses with then Congresswoman Gina de Venecia (extreme right) and her son Christopher who is now the present solon representing the Fourth Congressional District of Pangasinan.

He won the poll unopposed. He is a leader of the De Venecias in this burgeoning town.

According to the Local  Government Code, the duly elected presidents of the liga at the municipal, city and provincial levels, including the component cities and municipalities of Metropolitan Manila, shall serve as ex-officio members of the sangguniang bayan, sangguniang panlungsod, sangguniang panlalawigan, respectively. They shall serve as such only during their term of office as presidents of the liga chapters, which in no case shall be beyond the term of office of the sanggunian concerned (Section 494).

Councilor Abalos, who unanimously won the vote of the 29 villages chiefs here, profusely thanks Mayor Bona Fe D. Parayno too on her unequivocal support despite his being at the other political fence  before
when the mayor ventured in her first try to the mayoralty post here in   2010. She consequently lost to then Mayor Herminio Romero.

The LnB President told the August Chamber about the mayor being a straight shooter.
He said the Parayno hated “plastics”, a slang for hypocrites, in this Central Pangasinan town.

Abalos hailed Vice Mayor Pedro Surdilla, Jr. and members of the SB who boosted his self confidence and sense of security when they kept reminding him that he did not have any opponent for the prestigious post.

He lauded the Department of Interior & Local Government's Municipal Chief Dinah Pinlac and the member of his Liga ng Barangay for their unqualified cooperation and assistance.

The new ex-officio of the Sangguniang Bayan is the Barangay Captain of Maasin Village here.

Abalos, a contractor, is known for his generosity.

When he became the village chief nine years ago, the barangay and this town saw a yearly five days Bacchanalian Feast’s celebration funded by him.
