DAGUPAN CITY – The Paseo de Belen is now open for public viewing along the De Venecia Expressway Extension to spice up the yuletide season and the month-long city fiesta.
Located on empty lots just about in front of the CSI the City Mall, the Paseo de Belen will be lighted from 5:00 in the afternoon to 1:00 in the morning everyday up to January 8, 2018.
Each of the 22 nativity scenes (‘belen’) are interpreted differently according to the concept of the 30 participating barangays here, all aspiring to win in the Best Belen competition and the prizes that go with it.
The Paseo de Belen formally opened on December 7 with Fourth District Congressman Christopher Vera-Perez De Venecia, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez and 2017 City Fiesta Hermano Mayor Marcelino Fernandez cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
Three other entities have joined and put up their own versions of the nativity scene. These are the Dagupan City National High School, Dagupan City Police Station and Dagupan Electric Corporation. However, they are not part of the competition.
With a floor area of six meters by six meters, each nativity scene entry will be judged according to durability and stability, craftsmanship, innovation of traditional ‘belen’ format, appearance and approach of the theme.
First place winner will receive P50,000; second place, P30,000; and the third placer will receive P20,000.
Winners will be announced during the Barangay Night on December 27 at the city plaza. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
