DAGUPAN CITY – The 1ST Dagupan City Athletic Association Meet opened in a simple but fun-filled ceremony at the People’s Astrodome on November 11.
The activity, participated in by athletes from both public and private schools in the city in both elementary and secondary divisions, has for its theme: Moving towards Greater Heights through K-12 Sports Education.
Schools Division Superintendent Officer in Charge Froserfina J. Bravo said the activity serves as the final stage in the selection of athletes who will represent the city in the Region 1 Athletic Association Meet 2016.
“The Division Athletic Meet showcases the holistic development of the school children as they display their skills and talents gained in their Physical Education and Sports subject and consider the playing courts as an extension of their classrooms where practical learning/application of values and character takes place and becomes a potential avenue in the development of a worthy, productive, law-abiding citizens, our fair share in making our community healthy and child-friendly,” said Bravo.
The different sports events that will be played are: athletics, gymnastics, sepak takraw, chess, arnis, swimming, taekwondo, lawn tennis, billiards, futsal, volleyball, table tennis, basketball/football, and badminton.
The games will be played in different venues and in the most economical way.
“Team uniforms may not be necessary, but games requiring playing numbers should be observed. School uniforms are acceptable,” Bravo added.
During the opening program, participating delegations showed their talents in a dance/zumba showdown with the special participation of DepEd officials, the Parents Teachers Association and Barangay Council.
The showdown was considered a special event and participants were awarded points which will be considered in the computation of the different team’s overall standings.
The meet is being supported by the Dagupan City Sports Council with Mayor Belen T. Fernandez as honorary chairperson and Bravo as chairperson. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/Nov.12, 2015)
