MANGALDAN, Pangasinan – More than 1,300 families in this central Pangasinan town have been recipients of relief packs personally given by their lady mayor since the scourge of the flood that started last July 28.
Mayor Bona Fe D. Parayno led the
personnel of the Mayors's Office, Municipal Social Welfare and Development
Office (MSWDO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office
(MDRRMO), General Services Office (GSO), Community Affairs Office (CAO) and the
Philippines National Police (PNP) in the distribution for several days to the
13 barangays (villages) here.
These beneficiaries-villages were
Anolid, Amansabina, Banaoang, Bari, Buenlag, Guilig Guiguilonen, Navaluan,
Nibaliw Macayug, Tebag and Palua.
Mayor Parayno assured her other
constituents of aid similar to those recipients caught by the flood brought by
Super Typhoon Egay and the torrential rains. The relief packs, she said, were
intended to those who were mostly afflicted and restrained to do their job.
The local government unit (LGU) here continues to coordinate with other government offices to buttress its stock of relief packs so it can distribute to more number of beneficiaries. Each of the packs was composed of rice, canned goods, coffee, sugar and instant noodle.
Aside from the distribution of
the relief goods, Mayor Parayno initiated supplemental feeding to ease up the
hunger of her constituents.
Meanwhile, Parayno called an
emergency meeting with the department heads last July 31 to strengthen the
disaster and emergency responses of the flourishing town.
The mayor ordered the immediate
procurements of food supplies for stockpiling and continuous distribution of relief
goods to flooded villages due to the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) that was
aggravated by Super Typhoon Egay.
She prioritized too the purchase
of two-way radio, flashlights, boots and raincoats, reflectorized vest and
chainsaw for cutting trees that obstruct roads and pathways during a calamity.
Additional rescue vehicle and
ambulance are also set to be purchased by this first class town.
