During the tyrannous times of the colonial era, the flag remains a symbol of patriotism and nationalism in the Philippines. On May 28, 1898, the Philippine Flag was first raised after the victory of Filipino revolutionaries against the Spanish troops in the Battle of Alapan. Presidential Proclamation No.375, s.1965 declares May 28 of each year as National Flag Day.
SM malls in Olongapo,
Pampanga, Tarlac, Cabanatuan, Cauayan, Tuguegarao, Baguio, and Bulacan also
gear up next for the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day on June 12. |
Meanwhile, Executive Order
No. 179, s.1994 encourages every Filipino to prominently display the
Philippines Flag in all buildings, establishments, and homes from May 28 to
June 12.
Currently, SM Supermalls
across the Philippines join the rest of the country in commemorating National
Flag Day on May 28, 2023, through simultaneous flag-raising and salute to the
national emblem, the Flag. Being one with the public sector in promoting
awareness of the country’s symbol of independence, SM City Rosales, SM City
Urdaneta Central, SM Center Dagupan, and all SM malls nationwide led the
flag-raising ceremony, which was attended by mall officers, SM affiliates
employees, representatives of mall’s agency personnel and mall security force.
The mall common areas are
also decorated with the flag colors blue, red, white, and yellow, reminding
mallgoers of their love for the country.
