DAGUPAN'S LGU FOCUSES ON TONDALIGAN REDEVELOPMENT

DAGUPAN CITY – Improvements of the Tondaligan Blue Beach in Dagupan City appear to be underway following a fruitful dialogue by the local government with shed owners in the area on May 22.

TONDALIGAN REDEVELOPMENT UNDERWAY – During a dialogue conducted on May 22, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez assures Tondaligan Blue Beach shed owners that the efforts to boost tourism in the area will eventually help improve their livelihood. The dialogue discussed with stakeholders the boardwalk project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) costing P75 million.

This was conducted to address the concerns of the shed owners, particularly those who will be affected by the impending  construction of the project. 

Among those who attended the dialogue were City Engineer Virginia Rosario, City Planning and Development Officer Engr. Josephine Corpuz and Bonuan Gueset Barangay Council headed by incoming Punong Barangay Noel Bumanglag. 

Also present were District Engineer Edita Manuel, Department  of Environment and Natural Resources representative Mario Banda and members of the Bonuan Blue Beach Homeowners’ Association. 

During the dialogue, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez assured the shed owners that the efforts to boost the tourism in the area will eventually help improve their livelihood.

“The shed owners and the entire barangay will benefit from the expected tourism bonanza as tourists will soon be continuously flocking our beach,”she said. 

Mayor Fernandez also urged the residents and shed owners to cooperate in maintaining the areas’ cleanliness, with the national government actively helping to improve all tourist spots in the country.

“The country is improving all of its tourist spots. Maiiwan po tayo dito kung hindi po tayo gagalaw.” said Fernandez.

The discussion yielded positive result with the shed owners expressing their support for the redevelopment of Tondaligan Blue Beach as the changes that could happen will surely have positive impact on their business.

Jennifer Mabanta, one of the shed owners in the area, said she is in favor of the changes that will happen in Tondaligan.

“We’re pleased to see the improvements happening to the beach. We will always support Mayor Fernandez’ initiatives as we know it will help not just our beach, but our families and livelihood, as well.” said Mabanta.

The first phase of the one-kilometer  boardwalk will be constructed starting from the vicinity of the old water tank and may possibly extend up to Bonuan Binloc.

Other projects soon to begin in the area are the construction of the Mayor’s Pavilion, improvement of the Japanese Garden and the construction of the MacArthur Park, which will be located at the vicinity of the giant “jackstones” by the beach.

A joint project of Mayor Fernandez and 4^th District Rep. Christopher De Venecia, the Tondaligan Park redevelopment has actually begun with the ongoing construction of the Children’s Park and two new shower and comfort rooms. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
