Pangasinenses mark Earth Hour

BY: APRIL M. MONTES

DAGUPAN CITY – Pangasinenses joined the global call to observe the Earth Hour, a movement to bolster awareness about climate change and its impacts, last Saturday from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (Penro), in cooperation with the city government of Dagupan and Jollibee Group of Companies, led Pangasinense youth in a Zumba session at the City Plaza here to rally people to the reality of climate change.

During the hour-long shut down of power, participants used neon lights and glow sticks as they participated in the walk-for-a-cause while carrying banners and placards with slogans calling for the people to take concrete action to protect and preserve the environment.

Penro head Leduina Co reiterated the benefit of conducting Earth Hour, which is to give rest to Mother Earth from the heat emitted by the lights and appliances that the people are using, causing global warming.

In Calasiao town, kids also had their share to Earth Hour when they wrote messages for the care of the environment and posted them in a freedom wall placed at the Robinsons Mall to remind people of their responsibility to nature.

Church leaders also asked the faithful to join the observance of Earth Hour.
