I dropped by today in one of the offices of a third class town whose annual budget runs over P200 million. I posed to the two lady workers there:
"Natanggap ninyo na ba ang inyong P20,000 ngayong December na SRI (Service Recognition Incentive) na utos ng Malacanang? Iyong provincial government (that has an P8 billion yearly budget with 7,200 workers) at ibang first class towns (yearly budget between P400 million to P500 million) naibigay na sa kanila".
One of them amused by my query said: Grabe Sir, P5,000 lang ang SRI namin.
An employee of the Human Resources (H.R) of a first class town told me that third class towns have dearth on their finances thus they could not give the P20,000 each to their personnel.
"Kami dito Sir kahit sabihin ni President (Bongbong) Marcos na P25,000 ang SRI kayang ibigay ng LGU (local government unit) namin kasi malaki ang pondo namin.
She said that aside from the SRI, the LGU gives each of its regular workers with Middle Year (other calls it 13th month pay) in May this year and Year End Bonus (14th month pay) in November this year.
It means a department head , for example, of a first class town whose basic pay is P85,000 monthly will have a total of P1.2 million in one year.
Sa mga job order and consultant namin Sir, meron sila kada isa this month na P5,000 as Gratuity Bonus and P1,500 to P2,000 each as Cash Gift or almost P7,000 for this Christmas.
Compares with the private sector, the regular government workers nowadays have better bonuses like SRI and 14th month pay.
A worker in the private sector in Region 1 receives from P468 to P505 a mandated minimum wage only a day or P11,110 a month and a 13th month pay only for this Christmas.
