URDANETA CITY – A congressional candidate disagreed
with the prognosis of a pundit here that re-elective 5th District
Representative Amado T. Espino, Jr can easily beat him.
“Ano ang nakasulat sa billboard sa Villasis,
nakalagay sa billboard ko sa Urdaneta City? Ang nakasulat na tag line ko
“Kasama Kita”. Wala akong sinasabing apelyido. Kasi siya ang kasama niya isang
tao lang. Ako kasama ko ang constituents ng buong 5th District ng
Pangasinan,” stressed by exiting Binalonan Mayor Ramon “Monmon” Guicio, III to
the query of this writer that he will be facing a tough fight with Espino being supported by political heavyweights in this city.
The pundit was columnist Ed Ferrer, a high school classmate of
the incumbent solon.
Ferrer explained that Pangasinan Governor Amado
I.Espino, III, the namesake and son of the congressman, beat former District
Representative Mark O. Cojuangco in the May 9, 2016 election.
He cited that Espino beat Cojuangco despite the
support of former mayor, former congressman, and then Ambassador Amadito Perez
and his son this burgeoning city’s mayor Amadeo Gregorio “Bobom” Perez IV.
In that election the young Espino clobbered with
129, 403 votes Cojuangco who settled with 86, 458 or a lead votes of 42, 945
that helped Espino win his re-election for the governorship in the six
districts’ province.
“How can
Guico beat seasoned Congressman Espino where the Perezes of Urdaneta support
now Espino?,” Ferrer posed to this writer.
In the eight towns one city’s district , Urdaneta
City has the most numbers of voters with 87, 916 (Comelec November 2018
data) followed by Pozorrubio
with 47, 659.
Binalonan has 36, 717 voters only.
The district has 324,319 voters making her third in the most number of voters in the six districts' province.

The young Guico is the son of an illustrious political
