Dagupan hotels fully booked for Bangus Fest

                    Tourists urge to avail of hotels outside the city

DAGUPAN CITY – Rooms in major and medium scales hotels in this city have been fully booked  a week after the start of the month long  Bangus Festival 2017 that began last March 31.

City Tourism Chief Sharon Maramba said as of late March hotel rooms in this City proper were already filled up through reservation.

“Nag booked para sa mga judges sa Gilon-Gilon Festival of the North pati iyong (inaudible) trainers wala na po that’s three weeks ago. So we don’t have enough hotels,” she stressed during a press conference held at the Atrium in CSI Stadia last April 6.

Ortiz replaces Miro as Dagupan's police chief

DAGUPAN CITY – This city will have another chief of police (COP) in another reshuffle conducted by the regional police office in San Fernando City, La Union.

A source closed to Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo Gregorio Perez IV said that outgoing Officer-In-Charge's COP of this city Superintendent Neil Miro will replace Urdaneta City’s OIC chief of police Superintendent Jackie Candelario while Miro will be succeeded by Supt. Frank Ortiz.

According to Ortiz he is not certain when will be the date of his turn-over with Miro. He said he was just reassigned from the Intelligence Group at Camp Crame in Quezon City  to the police regional office in San Fernando City and the police provincial office (PPO) in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

“I’m in a floating position at the PPO  now and did not yet know when I will be assigned in Dagupan City,” Ortiz, 40, told Northern Watch.
But according to a source the turn-over will be on  April 10.
The early change of command was due to a car accident that figured Supt. Candelario who suffered, according to a press release from the PPO, a dislocated right hip when his Toyota Vios bumped a mango tree in Barangay Matic-Matic in Sta. Barbara.
The accident ensued at  4;36 in the morning of April 7. 

Ortiz is a member of the Philippine National Police Academy’s Class of 2003. He hailed from Barangay Apugan-Loakan, Baguio City.

Before his assignment in Camp Crame he was assigned in a regional intelligence unit in Cebu City.

The Honorable Members of the Sanggunian,

Fellow workers in government,

Friends, ladies and gentlemen,

My fellow Dagupenos:

Good morning.

Today I feel privileged to stand before you as your City Mayor with a great measure of humility, respect and profound affection for the wonderful opportunity to serve the people of Dagupan since 2013, and that you have renewed this confidence with a fresh mandate in 2016 to lead with honor, honesty, integrity and performance.

Our Good Lord has been amazing for the great blessings He has bestowed upon this faithful city, and for this we are grateful as He continues to direct our lives and make our communities and our families more abundant, safer, more peaceful, healthier and happier.

Dagupan today is transformed from the Dagupan of four years ago. We are successful and confident. We are proud. Four years ago we watched the fiscal and administrative reforms usher slow and difficult growth, but we were growing nonetheless.

Cong Toff set to file 2 bills to boost farming

Farmers in the fourth district of Pangasinan, especially the young, hail the  two bills set to be filed in Congress by   Rep. Christopher  "Toff" de Venecia as these  will greatly benefit them if they  become laws of the land.

These two are a bill seeking to provide and institutionalize a Magna Carta for young farmers and another bill seeking an expanded crop insurance program, both of which were endorsed by local farmers and youth who De Venecia earlier consulted.  

Noting that the average age of farmers is 57 years old, De Venecia is seeking a   Magna Carta for young farmers to encourage the young  to go into  farming and learn to love the craft  if some of them will soon inherit the farms being tilled by their  industrious parents.

But at the same time, he urged the youth to continue with their studies and finish a course and once they graduate and turn professional, they can still make the lands left by their parents much more productive, using their knowledge learned from the academe.  

The first bill. among others, defines the sector that comprises the young farmers and articulates  their needs, concerns,  problems and challenges that they are  facing in view of soaring prices of commodities, including farm inputs  and on account of the changing times.
