MANILA – (UPDATE, 9:15 a.m.) Arrested businessman Cedric Lee and companion Simeon Palma Raz were on their way to court in Taguig City Sunday morning after arriving past 8 a.m. from Tacloban City at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City escorted by a convoy of agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police.
The arresting team has to present the suspects before the Regional Trial Court-Branch 271 that issued the no bail arrest warrant against them on the charge of serious illegal detention filed by actor Vhong Navarro.
From the court, the team will bring the suspects to the NBI detention facility in Manila for custody.
The handcuffed Lee and Raz boarded a Philippine Air Lines (PAL) flight shortly before 7 a.m. at the Tacloban City airport.
NBI and police agents collared the suspects at around 11:15 a.m. Saturday in Oras, Eastern Samar after a brief chase from Dolores town.
Three others remained at large. They are Deniece Cornejo, Sajed Fernandez Abuhijleh alias Jed Fernandez, and Ferdinand Guerrero.
Navarro’s camp was still seeking explanation from the court why Jose Paolo Gregorio Calma and Bernice, Lee’s sister, were not issued the same warrant.
The case stemmed from Lee and his friends’ “frame-up” of Navarro for allegedly raping Cornejo in January inside her rented condominium unit at Bonifacio Global City.
The court had junked the rape case filed by Cornejo against Navarro.
Last month, a court issued a warrant against all the suspects for grave coercion filed by Navarro. The court set a bail for the suspects. INTERAKSIYON
