Dagupan dads blame for stalling street dance contestts

Mayor Benjie S. Lim
Vice Mayor Fernandez

Dagupan City – It’s only several days to go before the staging of the much-anticipated Gilon-Gilon street dancing competition , a major component of the Bangus Festival 2012, but the contestants’ preparations have been stalled and their participation still hang in the balance.
Reason: The Sangguniang Panlungsod has yet to enact a supplemental ordinance setting aside funds to bankroll the preparations and participation of the 31 barangays in the competition to be held on April 28 this year.
“Because of the inaction of the SP, all punong barangays here may be forced to borrow money so that they can prepare and participate, in the Gilon-Gilon street dancing,” according to Liga ng mga Barangay President Guillermo Vallejos.
Vallejos said in a media interview that :it would not look nice if the Gilon-Gilon street dancing competition will be sabotaged, ” adding that “as an option, uutang na lang muna kami due to lack of material time para mapaghandaan namin ang Gilon-Gilon street dancing para sa ating Bangus Festival sa taong ito.”
On the other hand, Councilor and Bangus Festival 2012 Chairman Brian C. Lim said he was sure that “the minority members of the council will duly support the call of the punong barangays for the passage of a supplemental budget.”
However, the card is in the hands of the majority members of the council and the vice-mayor. “Nasa kanila na po ang desisyon kung ipapasa nila ito o hindi,” said Lim.
Vice-Mayor Belen T. Fernandez was earlier quoted in a recent news item that members of the majority in the SP are still studying the request but are not inclined to grant it.
Vallejos, however, is hopeful that the SP will have a change of heart, adding that “sana ipasa na nila ito.” (CIO – Joseph C. Bacani)
