Duterte unafraid by assassination from AFP, CIA

DAGUPAN CITY – “If it’s destiny to be assassinated hanggang diyan na lang ako (then my life stops there),” declared by presidential front runner Rodrigo Duterte when asked if he was not anxious that the military and the Central Intelligence Agency might kill him because he is friendly with the communists and a threat to the U.S military interest in Asia.

Lately, media reported that Francis Bundoc Besin called Bong Go, the chief aide of Duterte, that two assassins have been hired for ten million pesos to liquidate the presidential aspirant from powerful sniper rifles provided by principals in the police.

“If God wants me to be president I will be there,” he stressed to this paper after the third leg of the presidential debate held here last Sunday.

In the April 18-20 Social Weather Station’s polls, the Davao City mayor led by six points to 33 percent his nearest presidential opponent Senator Grace Poe who received only 24 percent from the voters.

The survey’s time frame included his gaffe about his humor why he was not included first in the queue to rape the Australian missionary 36-year-old Jacqueline Hamil who was gang raped by hostage takers in 1989.

Sans foes, Dagupan zooms to economic height – Mayor

DAGUPAN CITY – The mayor here sees that without the hostile opposition councilors, who block the budget and her economic agenda, she could bring this city to a new economic height.

“Dapat mangyayari ito pag walang magba-block sa akin (This could happen if there will be no councilors who block my program),” Mayor Belen T. Fernandez said in relation to her pet project’s economic and tourism center (ETC) that could happen through the amendment of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP).
She cited the ballyhoed project could generate employment like call centers, medical transcriptionist, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), and others.

She explained that she could double the economic benefits of the people here within her next three years’ term if the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (Council) support her economic bills.

Other cities left Dagupan in the race

“Akalain mo naiwan ang Dagupan City ng Iloilo, Cebu, Baguio City mahigit sampung libo ang kanilang empleyado, bakit tayo wala? Kasi wala tayong bagong lugar for investment (Can you just imagine Dagupan City has been left by Iloilo, Cebu, Baguio City with their more than ten thousand workers, why we don’t have that numbers? She cited Barangays Pantal, Tambac, Caranglaan, Lucao, and Bonuan areas as probable sites for the ETC.

Fernandez had a brushed off last year with the opposition members in the Council who held her hostage by not approving the P768 million budgets for this year.

That stand-off that took for several months late last year almost prejudiced the P153 million development fund (DF) from the 2016 budget.

“600 emergency workers and 500 scholars will lose their jobs and privileged and more than one hundred million pesos goes to the drain,” the mayor told this paper early this year.

She cited also the loss of P20 million in the Bottoms-Up-Budget (BUB) and the P5 million from the Seal of Good Governance (SGG) and the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) from the Department of Local Government.

BALON DAGUPAN SWIMMING CLUB WINS BANGUS FEST SWIM CUP

DAGUPAN CITY – Fresh from their victory  in swimming in the R1AA, the Balon Dagupan Swimming Club (BDSC) set a record anew by  winning the 7^th Speedo G-League championship on April 23-24 during the Bangus Festival Swimming Cup at the Dagupan poolside besting 19 swimming teams from Central Northern Luzon and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Five of the most decorated swimmers of the BDSC won all their events in the competition like Rianna Isabelle Casipit who placed second in the 50 meter butterfly event but won the rest of the eight events she joined.

Mark Bryan Rioflorido won all the seven events but placed second in the 50 meter breaststroke; Paul Andrew Rioflorido placed first in six events, second in the 1500 meter free style event and third in the 50 meter butterfly event; Sophia Rafaelle De Vera placed first in five events and landed second in the 100 meter back stroke and 200 meter breaststroke events; while Janelle Alisa Lin placed first in five events, second in the 50 meter breaststroke event and third in the 50 meter butterfly event.  

BDSC also ruled in the mixed 400 meter freestyle relay in the 11-18 age division, mixed 200 meter medley relay in the 11-18 age division, mixed 200 meter freestyle relay in the 6-10 age division, and mixed 400 meter medley relay in the 11-18 age division.

MBTF JOINS UNITY WALK FOR ONE GOOD VOTE

DAGUPAN CITY – Mayor Belen T. Fernandez joined the One Good Vote Unity Walk of the Catholic Church on April 29 at St. John Cathedral along with other local candidates in the province in the 2016 poll.

DAGUPAN IS ALSO FOR CHAMP – Mayor Belen T. The other local candidates who joined the ceremony were Eric Acuña of the 3^rd congressional district; Christopher “Toff” De Venecia of the 4^th Congressional District; re-electionists Joey Tamayo and Jigs Seen, Fe Vidal, Dennis Canto and Mark Tan, all of the Team Belen.

Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) coordinator Fr. Allen Romero said that the unity walk was a provincewide activity which involved three archdioceses, the Lingayen-Dagupan, Alaminos and Urdaneta archdioceses.

“We sent invitations to all local candidates for governor, vice-governor, board members, congressional candidates, mayoralty and vice mayoralty candidates and councilors so they could join our cause for a clean, honest, accurate, meaningful and peaceful election in our province,” said Romero.

The PPCRV is advocating for CHAMP, which  stands for clean, honest, accurate, meaningful and peaceful elections and a one good vote in the coming May 2016 National and local elections.

Comelec officers in the province led by lawyer Joel Ginez, Comelec provincial director, the Philippine National Police headed by Police Senior Superintendent Edgar Allan O. Okubo, Pangasinan PNP Provincial Director, and volunteers of PPRCV coming from the different archdioceses also joined the unity walk along the city’s main thoroughfares.

Before the unity walk, a concelebrated mass was first held at the Cathedral with Bishop-elect of the Archdiocese of Tarlac Enrique Macaraeg as officiating priest, assisted by other priests in the province.

In a homily delivered by Monsignor Oliver Mendoza, the Church called on all candidates to consider love as the main reason for their candidacy, that what motivates them to run is their love for the people and not mainly for their selves and their families.
