Ex-Spkr. Cayetano Ponders Presidential Run

                  WILL OFFICIALLY DECLARE IT AFTER THE SONA

DAGUPAN CITY – Former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano eyes running for the presidency in the May 9, 2022 election.

“I always try to answer you sa media very forthrightly. Ayaw ko mag sinungaling I don’t believe in lying, I seriously considering a run but I want to focus muna sa SONA (State of the Nation Address) and sa Five Year Plan,” he told media men recently here during his distribution of the P3,500 cash aid to each of the 100 sari-sari (small retail) store owners to cushion them in the economic blow of the dreaded pandemic’s Corona Virus Disease-19 (COVID-19) and stimulate their business.

Earlier, the former Speaker distributed in Baguio City and San Carlos, Pangasinan P10,000 cash gift to each of the more than 400 destitute Filipinos under his Sampung Libong Pag-Asa Program.

So far, 3,600 beleaguered Filipino recipients benefited on the Program after he launched it on May 1 this year.

The former ten-year Senator and incumbent Representative of the First District of Taguig City said he is discussing with economists about the strong policy punches he wants undertaken by the government next year to stimulate commerce in the country.

He mentioned that both the 2020 and 2021’s national budgets are not anti COVID-19 program; the need for economic stimulus – where he lamented the country’s minuscule budget of $12 billion compared to the $23 billion to $75 billion government appropriations of  ASEAN countries' Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore; the Five Plan that includes a multi-billion pesos international airport in Pangasinan.

“Kasi running is also a part of kung kailangan ka at that certain point of time. Meaning in a certain point of time kung mekaniko, mekaniko ang tatawagin mo point of time. Doctor ang kailangan, doctor ang tawagin mo. So napakarami magagaling sa Pilipinas. But what kind of leaders do we need? A certain leader we need in 2022 before we go after them”.

He will finally decide after he heard the government policies embodied in the last State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte on July 27 and after he sees the content of the national budget for year 2022 that will be legislated starting late this year.

“..(A)nd probably that will be part of my making a decision at that time. Pag pray po ninyo ako kung tama ang maging decision ko”.

Presently, those seen to have moist eye for the presidency in the 2022 Election are Davao Mayor Sara Duterte, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Boxing Icon and Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao, Senator Grace Poe, and former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos.
