WILL THIS THREATEN EX MAYOR BELEN?

DAGUPAN CITY –
This city’s mayor has been seen several times rubbing elbows with the
district’s congressman while the latter has been doing his medical missions to
his constituents, a close ally of the solon told this writer.
The ally, who
asked for anonymity, said that Pangasinan Fourth District Representative Christopher de Venecia reached out lately with Mayor Brian Lim because that should be an ideal thing to do.
Recently, the duo was seen together at Barangay Poblacion Oeste during de Venecia’s medical and dental missions there
The activity, as
part of the young solon’s week long birthday celebration in the congressional
district, was conducted in the village with the help of the city government. The mission was
augmented by free haircut, manicure, pedicure, massage, and distribution of eyeglasses
to the grateful constituents in the village.
“He has good collaboration with the other four mayors
in the Fourth Congressional District and it was but normal for him to reach out
with Mayor Lim,” he cited.
The source said
that de Venecia even attended last Thursday the First 100 Days Report of Lim held at
the City Museum here.
"Thank you as well to
our Congressman, Toff De Venecia, for being here today, and for your commitment
of support, cooperation, and alignment of the city’s flood mitigation efforts
with your priority projects here in Dagupan City. We wish you an advanced happy
birthday," Lim told the solon while he read his speech.
The duo in the
elections in 2016 and 2019 have been in different political alliances. Both of their
parents former House Speaker Jose de Venecia and former mayor Benjie Lim had an
acrimonious congressional rivalry in the 2007 election that resulted for both
families to be alienated with each other until the young de Venecia extended
his reconciliatory hand late this year to the present mayor.
The young Lim, a
former vice mayor, vanquished six years’ Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, an ally of
the de Venecias, in a close- shave contest with a 1,239 (1.4%) lead votes among the
97,073 voters in the massive vote buying marred May 13, 2019 poll.
The ally said
the friendship between the two was necessary on the part of Lim because the
congressman, as deputy House Speaker, can bring hundreds of millions of pesos’
projects in this city that will make Lim looks good.
“It is good for mayor Lim to show case to his
constituents that he intercedes for the projects that comes from Congressman de
Venecia,” he told this writer in
Filipino.
A congressman
has more budget for infrastructure yearly than a provincial city mayor.
When asked that
Lim’s mayoral rival former mayor Fernandez will be jealous and insecure about
this growing collaboration by the duo, the ally said its but normal for the
incumbent congressman to tie in with the present mayor for the good of the
people.
“Wala tayong
magawa sa alliance nilang dalawa that is a political reality,” he said.
In August this
year during his ocular inspection of the P51
million river mitigation project at the bank of Pantal River, de Venecia told this writer that he would be
meeting the mayor to discuss what was the best solution to solve the perennial
floods that scourge this city.
“Magtutulungan kami ni Mayor Brian Lim. We
have to combine our powers,” he said.
