DAGUPAN CITY – A former member of the celebrated ‘Spice Boys” in the House of Representatives said it was not farfetched for him to join the senate race next year.
Former Surigao del Norte Governor Robert Ace Barber, who was at the residence of Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia, that in case he wins a senate seat, he will push for the strengthening of peace & order, tourism, and mining.
“”Unang-una siempre i iyong peace and order dahil ang isang lugar hindi magiging progresibo pag walang peace,” he stressed.
He cited his war-torn place Mindanano which investors and tourists shun.
He said tourism is a dollar churning business that the country should capitalize on while mining is good for job creation.
“I am 100 percent in support of the regulated responsible infrastructure of mining program in the country. Why? Isa sa biggest dollar earner. Hindi lang sa Pilipinas but sa ibang bansa. Ang industria ng pagmimina kapag ito ay pumasok sa ibang lugar maasahan natin na magdedevelop ang lugar. Dadami ang kabuhayan ng ta-o, magka-karoon ng trabaho ang ta-o to finance pag-aaral at ikakabuhay ng kanilang anak”.
He explained the downside of mining however which is destruction of the environment.
He reasoned however that mining is not evil per se.
“Everybody you see around is product of mining,” he said.
He cited the materials that contain a chair, the floor where a person stands, and the cradle that carry an infant.
He said government should not only support but reinvigorate the mining industry.
