BFAR Reverses Findings of Sual Water To Desirable

By Mortz C. Ortigoza

SUAL, Pangasinan – The Bureau of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources (BFAR)  reversed its negative findings last December of the sea quality here to positive as based on its Quality Bulletin No. 1 this year.
In a January 14 copy signed by BFAR Region-1 Director Lilibeth Signey, the water quality of this western Pangasinan town at its six areas were on the desirable level of dissolve oxygen for fish farming.
These areas are Baybay Norte, Pangascasan, Baquioen, Cabalitian, MZP Techno Demo, and Control Area.

Other water quality parameter such as ammonia nitrogen, nitrite, nitrogen, salinity, temperature and pH in all sampling stations in Alaminos, Bolinao, Bani, Anda, and Sual, Pangasinan are within the desirable levels for fish farming,” cited by Signey.
She exhorted the stakeholders of the four towns and one city to observe Good Aquaculture Practice (GAqP) for sustainable mari-culture operation as based on the magnitude of economics activities in these areas.

Bulletin No. 1 provided color coding button legends on dissolve oxygen conditions of the different water areas.
Blue for desirable level (4.0 mg/L); Yellow for Low Level (3.1 – 4.0 mg/L); Brown for Abnormally Low-Level (2.1 – 3.0 mg/L), and; Red for Critically Low Level ().2 mg/L).
The same color codes for Nitrate Nitrogen and Ammonia Nitrogen.
This bustling town mayor Roberto Arcinue denied that water pollution still exist in these areas as hurled by critics. The areas hosted 750 bangus (milkfish) fish cages that give P10 million a year for the public coffer here as business tax.
Arcinue cited that daily bangus harvest in the 750 fish cages is 60 tons a day or 60,000 kilos.

This town is the largest producer of milkfish in the country according to the BFAR.
