DAGUPAN CITY – Mayor Belen T. Fernandez inaugurated the city’s newest health center at Sitio Korea in Bonuan Binloc on May 10 bringing the city’s health services closer to the residents in the area.
The health center will be managed by the City Health Office under the guidance of Dr. Doris Jovellanos, who has been assigned to cover the area of Bonuan.
Fernandez, during her first term of office, provided the children in the area a Day Care Center.
She also constructed 30 housing units for the 30 families scavenging at the city’s open dumpsite in line with the city’s plan to do away with the facility and instead set up a 'Waste to Energy project, which can convert garbage into diesel fuel.
Hand-in-hand with the distribution of PhilHealth cards and MDGs to pregnant mothers in the area, Fernandez reiterated the city’s campaign for zero mortality on pregnant mothers.
“Last year, wala po tayong naitalang mortality ng kahit isang ina na namatay habang nanganganak. This is because we discouraged mothers of giving birth at home. This is why we are issuing them free PhilHealth cards so that they will be encouraged to give birth to the hospitals or in any birthing stations in the city,” said Fernandez. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
