LINGAYEN –
The top man of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in the country wanted salary of newly hired Certified Public Accountants in the tax agency hike by exempting them from the government’s salary standardization law (SSL).
Commissioner
Caesar R. Dulay lamented that the salary of a new examiner at the agency starts
between twenty thousand pesos to twenty five thousand pesos a month.
“At the
Security Exchange Commission and the Insurance Commission the pay entry of the
new accountant there is between thirty five thousand pesos to forty thousand
pesos a month,” he explained to the hundreds of people and BIR officials in
Region -1 who attended recently here the 2017 Regional Tax Campaign Kick-Off of the
BIR.
Dulay
exhorted the participants to write and talk with their congressmen to hammer a
law that would exempt these junior level officials from the SSL.
“BIR
contributes revenues to government. Talk with your congressmen (to pass a law exempting examiners from SSL) so we can achieve
our (tax collection) goal or beyond our goal to build infrastractures,” Dulay stressed.
He cited
that the BIR will be collecting 1.83 trillion pesos as its tax goal this year.
“With
improved collection, the Duterte Administration can introduce and implement
more programs,” the commissioner who is a lawyer urged BIR officials led by BIR Region
1 Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Teresita Dizon and OIC Assistant Regional Director Fely Simon.
Dizon was optimistic that the four provinces
regional office can help collect the P1.83 trillion.
The
regional office based in Calasiao, Pangasinan will be collecting P15.6 billion taxes this year.
