UP, Pangasinan gov’t to ink pact for language,culture preservation
LINGAYEN – The Provincial Government here will soon sign an agreement with the University of the Philippines (UP) to promote and enhance the linguistic and cultural heritage of Pangasinan.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan here passed a resolution on Monday authorizing Governor Amado Espino, Jr. to enter into and sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with UP for the preservation, promotion and propagation of the language and culture of province.
Vice Governor Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr. author of the resolution, said the University of the Philippines was selected by the provincial government of Pangasinan because of its capability and expertise in planning and implementing identified projects.<!--more-->
“For the past five or six years, the provincial government has been exerting so much effort in establishing the province’s identity in making a mark in history and to be a well-known province in the Philippines,” Calimlim said.
Calimlim said the academe of the University of the Philippines will be partnering with the provincial government to come up with planning of projects such as: the creation of Pangasinan Studies Center; the historical and cultural mapping; and inventory of the province and the 48 municipalities and cities.
