CALASIAO –Mayor Mark Macanlalay said President Aquino III advised him to watch for “copycats” of this town vaunted bottle crown-sized white rice cake.
Baka mamaya may mang-gagaya at sasabihin na Calasiao puto ang kanilang binebenta,” Macanlalay said the President told him.
Macanlalay said he told the President he was vigilant about “imitators” and that he ensures that what this first class town produces is fresh rice cake.
The mayor said the President, who dropped by at the Regency Hotel last month, asked him if the ‘puto” being sold at White Plains subdivision are genuine Calasiao puto.
The young mayor said aside from White Plains, Puto Calasiao are sold at high end subdivision Corinthian Garden and in Green Hills in San Juan City.
Macanlalay compared that puto is sold at higher prices in those areas.
He said that he has to check other producers that sell the delicacy in Metro Manila.
He said President Aquino dropped here because a niece or nephew played in the tennis competition of the Palarong Pambansa (national game), which was the venue of the game.
Aquino came to his hotel after speaking at the opening of the national game. A source who asked anonymity said Aquino skipped the lunch prepared by Governor Amado T. Espino for him, former President Fidel V. Ramos and other dignitaries.
