Lingayen - - President Benigno S. Aquino III, no less, will be the guest of honor during the opening ceremony of Palarong Pambansa 2012 on May 7 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) even as he is expected to strengthen sportsmanship and camaraderie among 10,000 delegates and spectators.
Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr presided over a meeting of the various working committees of the Palaro on April 25 at the NRSCC’s Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Building to discuss salient concerns of the event.
Presidential Management Staff Regional Team Leader Cesar Tuliao, who facilitated the meeting, said that P-Noy accepted the invitation to grace the Palaro opening because of Gov. Espino.
“President Aquino made sure he will come on May 7 upon the governor’s invitation,” Tuliao said.
In previous years during his incumbency as President, P-Noy did not attend Palarong Pambansa events.
The opening program was originally scheduled on May 6 but has been reset to May 7.
Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan, Presidential Management Staff, provincial government department heads, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, regional government offices and non-government organizations were in full force as each presented their specific task requirements and suggestions.
Former President Fidel V. Ramos, who confirmed his participation in the program, expressed gladness over P-Noy leading the opening ceremony, according to Espino.
The committee unanimously agreed to conduct the final coordination meeting on May 4 at 10 a.m. followed by a simulation/rehearsal the next day, May 5. (PIO/Sheila H. Aquino)
