Dr. Sison-Primicias, K-12 int’l confab point person

LINGAYEN – Pangasinan Gov. Amado T. Espino designated Dr. Shiela Marie Sison-Primicias as the provincial government led person for the success of the probably biggest international conference on K to 12 in the region if not in the country on January19 to 21, 2011.
Dr. Sison-Primicias, Assistant School  Division Superintendent of the Department of Education in Pangasinan, said that the governor told her in a memorandum to work closely with local and international participants who were tapped for the success of the forum dubbed as the  “1st International Conference-Workshop on K to 12 Curriculum Enhancement of Philippine Education 2012”.

It is an ambitious collaboration of the Espino Administration with the Guro Formation Forum and the Pangasinan State University to show window the capacity of the province and its facilities to host international activities.
The venue of the event would be at the capitol's world class Sison Auditorium here.
Dr. Primicias said the speakers for K to 12 hailed from the Department of Education, Senate, House of Representatives and other stakeholders from public and private sectors.

Six foreign experts from the United States, Australia, and Japan will join the local resource speakers.
They are Dr. Robin Groves of Curtin University in Australia, Richard Halverson of the University of Wisconsin-Madison in USA, Dr. Elaine Horne of Perth University in Australia, Dr. Isoda Masami of the University of Tsukuba in Japan, and Dr. Peter Sullivan of Monash University in Australia.
The foreign speakers will discuss the following: Dr. Groves on “United Nation Education Agenda & the K to 12 Curricular Enhancement”, Halverson on “K to 12: School Management leadership & Technology Development”, Dr. Horne on Experimental Environmental Education within K-12 Schooling, Dr. Masami on Collaborative & Proactive Lesson Planning, while Dr. Sullivan on Using the curriculum as an opportunity to support teachers and improve student learning”.
The Philippine speakers are Undersecretary Yolanda S. Quejano of DepEd, Undersecretary Fortunato dela Pena of the Department of Science & Technology, Rep. Mariano Piamonte Jr,  Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, Dr. Sergio S. Cao, president of the Manila Tytana Collges, and Rep. Antonio L. Tinio.
The Filipino guests will discuss the following: Dr. Quejano on “K to 12 Curricular Enhancement in Philippine Education 2012”, Dr. Dela Pena on “K to 12 Curricular Enhancement & the Public Sector, Senator Trillanes on Senate Resolution 499, Dr. Cao on “K to 12 & the Private Higher Institutions, and Rep. Tinio on “K to 12 Curricular Enhancement & the Alliance of Concerned Teachers.

In the advisory released recently by the Department of Education, the Assistant Superintendent said that the event is open not only to teachers in the country, but will also extend to the teachers in Philippines Schools Overseas to include but not limited to Bahrain, China, Greece, Kuwait, Libya, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirate.
This training according to Dr. Sison-Primicias provides a forum, working knowledge and information on global practices and perspectives.
She noted that the training shall greatly benefit education stake holders who will promote partnership with other professional pre-and in-service teacher education institutions.
