DAGUPAN UNDERGOES EVALUATION FOR 2017 SGLG

DAGUPAN CITY – For the third time, this burgeoning city underwent yet another assessment as a candidate for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) 2017 award by the Regional Assessment Team (RAT) headed by Assistant Regional Director Victoria Ramos of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Region 1 on May 16.

This city was conferred the SGLG award in 2015 and 2016 and is looking forward for its third straight SGLG award this year.

Ramos disclosed that considering the many projects and programs of the local government under the stewardship of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, there can be no doubt that the city will not clinch its third SGLG award.

“We have actually proposed that a Distinction Award be given to LGUs which have been recipients of the SGLG award for three consecutive years. There are nine LGUs in the region and Dagupan is among them,” said Ramos.

Ramos added that for this year, an additional 19 indicators were included in their evaluation which focuses on tourism and the culture and arts.

“We have up-scaled our indicators to be relevant with the present times,” said Ramos adding that the SGLG is now being recognized internationally with all the 58 indicators embodied in the selection of SGLG awardees.

On the part of the city, Mayor Fernandez believes that the SGLG program of the DILG has become very competitive as many LGUs are striving to win the award.

“This inspired us more to serve our people,” said Fernandez.

The city met and passed all the core components of the SGLG in 2015 and 2016 namely: 1) Financial Administration or Good Financial Housekeeping; 2) Social Protection; and 3) Disaster Preparedness.

Moreover, the city government under Mayor Fernandez also met the measures or criteria in all of the three essential areas: 1) Business Friendliness and Competitiveness; 2) Peace and Order; and 3) Environmental Management. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/May 17, 2017)
