JOBS FOR JOB-SEEKERS – Some 731 job-seekers line up for job interview at the 2017 Bangus Festival's Mega Job Fair on April 20 at CSI Atrium. The event was facilitated by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez through the office of the Public Employment and Services Office under the stewardship of Joy Siapno in cooperation with Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), PhilHealth, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Pag-Ibig and Social Security System (SSS). Public Employment and Services Office (PESO) manager Joy Siapno disclosed that at least 33 job providers participated in the one-day mega job fair composed of 28 local and five overseas companies.
The mega job fair was facilitated by PESO, the City Administrator Office and the 2017 Bangus Festival Executive Committee in cooperation with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), PhilHealth, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Pag-Ibig and Social Security System (SSS).

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez considers this as the biggest job fair in the city so far even as she reaffirmed that creating jobs is one of the trusts of her administration.
“We thank DOLE for empowering our PESO, which is so active in providing jobs for our people as DOLE is one of the best agencies of the government. They helped us provide not just jobs but also livelihoods and assistance in helping our distressed overseas Filipino workers who left their jobs abroad because of maltreatment and abuse,” said Fernandez.
Engracio Q. Bailon, head of DOLE in Central Pangasinan, appreciated the effort of the city in organizing the job fair, saying that other LGU’s should do the same especially during this period where fresh graduates are on the hunt for jobs.
“This is a very timely activity especially during this period na kasagsagan ng paghahanap ng trabaho ang mga tao, lalo na yung mga katatapos mag-graduate,” said Bailon.
Bailon encouraged students that before they decide on what course to take in college, it is important that they consult with the PESO or DOLE as to what job is in demand so that they will be assured of getting jobs.
“Marami kasi sa ating mga graduates na ang mga kinuha nilang courses ay do not fit sa available na jobs in the market. It is important that they plan ahead on what course to take by considering what would be the most in demand job five years from now,” said Bailon.
The one-day mega job fair also catered to job-seekers from the neighboring towns and to the city’s own scholars who recently graduated from the different colleges and universities in the city.
“We do not just send our scholars to school and finish their courses but we want to also assure that they find employment once they graduate,” said Fernandez. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO/April 20, 2017)
